Eminent Persons Group of the Christian Council of Ghana Congratulates President- Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama

The Eminent Persons Group (EPG) of the Christian Council of Ghana extends heartfelt congratulations to President-elect His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for his overwhelming victory in the Presidential and Parliamentary elections held on Saturday, December 7th. We also commend the NPP's flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his leadership and commitment to peaceful elections, especially for conceding to presidential results swiftly, demonstrating true diplomacy during this critical transition.

However, the EPG expresses deep concern regarding recent incidents of vandalism and property destruction that have occurred following the 2024 elections. In light of these events, we urge all Ghanaians, particularly supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to refrain from violence and to uphold the values of peace and democracy.

Recent reports have highlighted alarming acts of vandalism, including the burning of the Electoral Commission office in Damongo and attacks on residences of District Chief Executives across various regions and other acts of violence, which has resulted in the loss of lives. Such actions not only undermine the democratic process but also tarnish the reputation of our nation. We commend the Ghana Police Service for their swift response and efforts to maintain peace amidst these challenges although we acknowledge some unfortunate incidents, such as those reported in Obuasi East among others.

As we navigate this critical juncture, we are reminded of biblical teachings that guide us through times of defeat. Proverbs 15:1 states, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." This wisdom encourages us to respond with grace rather than aggression. Additionally, Philippians 4:6-7 reminds us not to be anxious about anything but to present our requests to God with thanksgiving, allowing His peace to guard our hearts and minds.

We call upon both leadership and supporters from all political affiliations to prioritize peace and stability during this crucial period in our country's development. The future of Ghana depends on our ability to come together as one nation, regardless of our political differences.

In conclusion, let us heed this call for peace and unity. While elections may come and go, our shared identity as Ghanaians endures. Together, let us build a future characterized by respect, understanding, and collaboration.

Thank you for your attention and commitment to fostering peace in Ghana.

Signed
