CCG urges Ghanaians to be vigilant but not vigilantes in the upcoming December elections
CCG Seminar in Tamale The Christian Council of Ghana has urged Ghanaian electorates and stakeholders in the upcoming December 7, 2020 general elections to report their grievances to the appropriate quarters for redress rather than resulting to violence. According to Dr. Cyril Fayose,the General Secretary of the council, election observers should be vigilant but not vigilantes and also make sure things are done right during the polls. The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) with a funding support from Bread for the World on Thursday, 30th July, 2020 organised a voter education and election monitoring seminar in the northern regional capital, Tamale. /span> The voter education and election monitoring seminar which will be implemented in three regions of the country seeks to contribute to efforts in promoting democratic, free, fair and peaceful election acceptable to all Ghanaians for effective socio-economic and political development of the country. Speaking at the seminar,Dr. Cyril Fayose noted that the Christian Council has influenced governance in the country and has also been part of the independence movement to gain independence for Ghana and influenced major political developments in the country such as the drafting of the 1992 constitution. He therefore appealed to the eligible Ghanaian citizenry to participate in all electoral activities and desist from acts that are likely to plunge the nation into chaos as it is the right and responsibility of everyone towards ensuring a peaceful election. The seminar brought together representatives of the various christian denominations in the region as well as representatives of the two major political parties, the NDC and NPP.
